Art is the technology for the evolution of conciousness
— Kathia Castro Laszlo, Ph.D.

This quote is what motivates us.  What is means to us is that we have an opportunity to use visual art as a way to push consciousness about the Black experience forward.

Art remains a tool for visceral connection— to our world, to our history, to ideas and to each other. It is essential that we tell our story through visual expression, benefit from our output, and allow the community to foster our creativity.  If every home has a piece of Black art, then every home has a beacon to explore the Black consciousness.

Black visual artists are the new creative rockstars and influential visionaries. We help you discover your favorites and support them.

Although art is an important part of culture it remains elusive. We have become familiar with Basquiat because of hip hop personalities like Swizz Beatz and Jay-Z. It is present in our fashion, politics, entertainment, and even music but not at the forefront...yet.

We are poised to bring Black art into everyday experiences. We will disrupt the exclusive nature of the art world and expand through innovation + creativity.  Black art is the new hip-hop soon to take over a cultural generation.  Join the wave.

We specialize in bringing emerging Black visual artists with amazing talent, but aren’t yet mainstream. You can discover these gems and own their work early.

Fuck livin’ rich and dyin’ broke. I bought some artwork for one million. Two years later, that shit worth two million. Few years later, that shit worth eight million. I can’t wait to give this shit to my children. Y’all think it’s bougie, I’m like, it’s fine. But I’m tryin’ to give you a million dollars worth of game for $9.99
— Sean Carter

Black artistic expression drives popular culture. From music, to film, to fashion and beauty, Black people inspire trends; however, history shows us Black people rarely benefit from the art they create.

The digital revolution of the 21st century is primed to cause a seismic shift in cultural appropriation. Black Prism, as a brand born of the digital age, aims to create new legacies.  There is an opportunity to own Black creativity, be inspired by it and pass it down to future generations.

As we move towards visual culture, the Black artist is at the center. We create an ecosystem to support them through collectors, marketing, and collaboration.

If we’re gonna celebrate the artists, then we’re gonna celebrate the artists for real.
— Swizz Beatz

We don't just want to sell items.

We want to empower by doing the following:

  • Providing a platform for emerging to established Black artists to feature their work and their stories.
  • Encouraging Black communities to become art lovers, collectors and impact the future of Black art.
  • Incubating future Black artists with the tools to get exposure in order to focus on their artwork.
  • Making Black visual art part of mainstream culture through events and experiences.

Created by Black artists...for our culture.

After more than a decade of working in digital media we took a sabbatical to focus on art, community and entrepreneurship full time. Along the way we realized that more people were interested in art, but felt that it was inaccessible to them. Black Prism was born out of our desire to bring the magic of visual art into the everyday lives of people like us.  Hopefully planting seeds of legacy for future generations.

With the backing of the New York Foundation of the Arts 2017 ABI program we have been able to bring Black Prism to life. What you see here is the foundation, but it's just the tip of the iceberg. Join us along for the ride...
