ANDRE WOOLERY - Patterns of Beauty Iman
This piece is part of the Patterns of Beauty collection that focuses on the beauty of Black women and models re-imagined as pixels. This portrait of Iman is an evolution in creating portraits with the medium of pushpins for the artist. Instead of an array of colors, the artist used a single color pushpin coupled with a mathematical approach to deconstruct the light within a portrait. The image becomes clear through varying patterns of pushpins that results in a partially exposed canvas.
Insider Information. There are over 9,000 pushpins but one single purple pushpin. Every piece by this artist has a single purple dot as a dedication to his wife for pushing him back into creating.
