About_the_Artwork_Title_Card.jpg

This portrait is one of our favorites for its colorful approach, beauty, and uniqueness. The design within the hair has very precise measurements to create illusion of wavering lines but the lines are perfectly parallel. Visually there is a battle between her striking, natural, Black beauty and the mathematical matrix of Ms. Badu's afro.

What influences were present when creating this artwork? I wanted this art to have a soulful vibe so I watched old Soul Train videos on Youtube. As I listened to the music, I took notice of the color palettes in all fashion and found a mix of colors that could represented that era of Black soul.
